How to use grow tents in a small living space

For fun, I want to start with the following joke that is best read aloud:

A guy goes to his shrink and says, “I’m having nightmares. One night I dream about wigwams the next night I dream about teepees. Wigwams, teepees, wigwams, teepees. I’m going crazy, what’s wrong with me doc?"

The doctor replies; "You’re two tents!" (You’re too tense, get it?) LOL!

Sorry, I couldn’t resist, and it was just a joke!

This article is intended to help you with how to grow Marijuana in a small living space. I love teaching how to accomplish growing Marijuana in your very small living space because, with this information, I am excited to say that there can be a growing revolution in this country. Why? Because just about everyone can grow quality Marijuana inexpensively and organically.

Here are some of the things you’ll achieve when you grow your own Marijuana;

  • You won’t pay retail.
  • You won’t pay any tax.
  • You won’t be buying average weed mislabeled as good weed.
  • You won’t have to deal with potential misinformation on the label.
  • You won’t have to leave your home.
  • You can grow what you love and never run out.

Let’s say, for example, that you live in a unit that is 600 square feet or less and you have no spare space to grow your Marijuana. What should you do about that?

I recommend you purchase a 2 X 2 or 2 X 4 Tent. Oh, sure Farmer, where am I going to put that? Most people, not everyone, but most people can get out of their beds from both sides. That makes sense, right?

So the biggest sacrifice you make is getting out of bed only on one side, which leaves the other side for your tent. Can you visualize that?

Your tent is a low-cost and effective grow area! And the good news is, you can grow all year round!

Are you excited yet? Because depending on the species, you can probably grow 4 marijuana plants in your 2 X 4 Tent. Here is a little chart if you want to go bigger. Decide how many plants you want to grow and how much room you have to grow in.

Pitching Your Tent!

Let’s get going on your tent. The setup is actually very easy. The bigger the tent the more lights you'll need. Since this article is focused on small grow solutions, the following steps are for a grow tent that is 2 X 4. If you choose a larger size, you may need to make some adjustments.

How to Set Up a 2 x 4 Marijuana Grow Tent

  • Purchase a quality tent with at least 700 Denier. Denier refers to the thickness of the fabric and could be designated by a “D” on the company label (for example: ‘700 D’).The higher the “D”, the thicker the fabric. The thicker the fabric the better quality along with better noise reduction and overall better control of your environment. You’ll probably have this tent for a very long time.
  • Make sure the inner lining of your tent is white Mylar. White Mylar is a highly reflective material and helps enhance and improve the effect of lighting you purchase for the inside of your tent by reflecting light back onto your plant.
  • In addition, make sure the vent openings in the tent work properly for your space. For example you don’t a vent near your face. Make this determination prior to purchase!
  • The better the tent, the better control you’ll have over lighting, especially the mandatory 12 hours of darkness required in the bloom stage, along with temperature, ventilation, humidity and that well known Marijuana SMELL. I like that smell, but it may not be a good effect in your small living space.
  • Instructions will come with the tent you have purchased for setup. Follow those instructions carefully as the parts fit together precisely. The manufacturer normally does not make errors and everything fits perfectly and tightly. If something doesn’t fit, you have probably done something wrong. START OVER! The most important thing I can tell you from experience is, do not force the zipper EVER. If the zipper fails the tent becomes useless and you have wasted your money. I broke the frame of one of these tents and then right after that, I broke the zipper by pulling to hard. So please learn from my mistakes! BE VERY CAREFUL!!!
  • How to choose your lighting? There are many choices but I recommend choosing a LED fixture as there will be less heat than a conventional bulb system and you’ll save lots of money on your electric bill. Also, LED’s last longer and are usually smaller too!! Try to choose the brightest LED available.
  • How to choose an exhaust fan? Again, there are many choices but I recommend a quality in-line exhaust fan. They are quiet and efficient, plus it can remain inside your tent which will reduce the noise level inside your living area. Note: Some growers prefer an exhaust fan that fits on top of your charcoal filter (see below) because this fan is more efficient than in-line fan, but the big problem will be that this fan will be outside the tent on top of your charcoal filter and the noise from the fan will be audible inside your living area.
  • Purchase a 6 inch air duct flexible ducting HVAC ventilation air hose for grow tents. Sounds like a lot but you can get 15 feet of this air hose for under $20. You will use this hose for your ventilation system. Usually they come with round clamps to clamp to the fan(s). If not, you need to purchase 6” clamps.
  • A charcoal filter to filter the air from your exhaust system. The concept here is to remove the air from the tent trough the fan. The fan will push the air to into the charcoal filter to eliminate or reduce any odors coming from your tent.

What Small Parts Should I Acquire?

  • A small supply of dirt. I recommend Fox Farm Ocean Forest.
  • A small supply of red solo cups.
  • Qty. 6, 5-gallon pots with saucers to catch the water.
  • A good spray bottle to mist liquids onto the plants. This spray bottle can be used for a variety of applications. See my article on what and how to mist your plants.
  • A 5 Gallon bucket with a lid to use for water storage. Two buckets would be better so chlorine is dissipating from one, while you’re using the other.
  • Two retractable hangers for each light. These allow you to adjust the height of the light and are hung from the top of the tent.
  • Two retractable hangers to hang your ventilation system above your plants. These also are hung from the top of the tent.
  • Plant stakes. I prefer bamboo as they last longer than wood.
  • Green tie wire to tie the plants to the bamboo stakes. You want to keep the plants upright.
  • Timers to control your LED light(s). One for each light.

Now you are ready start growing. For more information on how to grow, check out the articles on my website for more precise information on how to crack seeds and grow plants...

Easy peasy lemon squeezy!
